Bhutan Mountain Bike Tour

DAY 1: ARRIVE AT PARO.
Kindly approach the airport 2hrs prior to the flight departure. You will need to present the Bhutan Visa at the time of the boarding. We will be sending you a copy of your Bhutan visa clearance before you depart from home through email, fax etc. There are only ‘two’ commercial planes that fly in and out of Bhutan. Normally these flights are scheduled to fly in from Bangkok, Delhi, Nepal and Singapore. Upon arrival at the airport immigration, you will need to once again present your visa copy for final visa seal on your passport. After clearing all formalities at the immigration and custom, you will find our guide and the driver waiting outside the terminal. You will then be greeted with traditional welcome scarf and then transferred to the hotel.
Once you are ready we will board our cycles and being our tour of Paro we will cycle to the picturesque town of Paro to the Paro Dzong and its Ta Dzong which is home to the Bhutanese national museum. After visiting the 2 we will ride to towards the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong.
Total Distance 36 kilometers/24miles; 16 kilometers uphill, 16 kilometers downhill

DAY 2: RIDE TO HAA
Total Distance 66 kilometers/44miles; 36 kilometer uphill,(Accent upto 1600 meters/5120ft), 22 kilometers downhill.

After breakfast we will climb on to our bikes and ride towards the Haa valley, we will cycle up to the Chele La pass which is the highest point of our trip at an altitude of 3822 meters above sea level. We will stop here for a while to rest and enjoy the spectacular view of the eastern Himalayan Mountains. We will then proceed downhill to enter the Haa Valley and reach the village of Haa our stop for the 2nd night.

DAY 3: RIDE TO THIMPHU
Total Distance: 111 kilometers/74miles; 28 kilometers uphill and 70 kilometers downhill with the rest on flat roads.

Today after breakfast we begin our journey towards Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan we will be biking along a route that takes us past the Shari Village, Chuzom and the fortress of Simtokha finally onwards to the city of Thimphu . Today we will be visiting the .The King’s Memorial was built in memory of the third king of Bhutan who reigned for three decades from 1952-1972. We will also visit the Tashichoe Dzong and the colorful weekend Market

DAY 4: RIDE TO PUNAKHA
Total distance: 76 kilometers/51miles, 4 ½ hrs; 20 kilometers uphill and 56 kilometers downhill.

After breakfast we will take on the toughest challenge of the tour. The climb up the west side of the mountain takes us from an elevation of 2370 meters to 3100 meters at Dochu La pass.On a clear day, theGangkharPhunsum in the Himalayan range can be seen towards the North East. At the pass are 108 monumental chortens and the hillsides are covered in fluttering prayer flags.Lunch is served at the Cafeteria near the pass. After lunch, we will have a very easy trip descending down into the sub-tropical valley of Punakha, the winter capital of Bhutan. Be sure to check your brakes before making the descent as we will be losing about 1800 meters of elevation during the 37km down-hill trip. Upon reaching Punakha we will visit the Punakha Dzong which is one of the most beautiful Dzongs in Bhutan situated at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu rivers.

DAY 5: RIDE TO TRONGSA
Morning proceed to central Bhutanese town of Trongsa (125 km, approx. 6 hours) crossing 3,300 m high Pelela pass en route. From Pele la pass proceed to Chendbji Chhorten at altitude of 2,400 m (27 km, 1.1/2 hour), the stupa patterned on Swayambhunath in Kathmandu. Chendbji to Trongsa is about 41 km, approximate two hours of biking on almost flat land.

DAY 6: TO BUMTHANG
Morning sightseeing with visit to Trongsa Dzong and Ta Dzong and then proceed to Bumthang (68 km, approx.4.1/2 hours) crossing Yotongla pass (3,400 m) and then descend to Gyetsa valley (2,700 m). Later cross 2,900 m Kiki la pass while reaching to Jakar.

DAY 7: EXPLORE JAKAR AND BICYCLE RIDE
The morning is free to wander around the small yet interestingly unique Jakar, the trading hub of the Bumthang valley. Tamshing Lhakhang, Jakar Dzong, Kurjey and Jambay Lhakhang. After lunch we have a leisurely ride and a chance to visit some of the many Dzongs and Goembas scattered around the valley.

DAY 8: TO PHOBJIKHA (6-7hrs drive)
Early morning drive to Phobjikha valley. Visit the Gangtey goenba from the 15th century. The valley is also home to the endangered species of ‘Black-necked cranes’ that fly during the fall (early November) from the high points of Tibetan plateau. It is one of the biggest wet-lands in Bhutan.

DAY 9: TO PARO (4-5hrs)
Visit to Crane Observation and information center. Then continue drive to en-route stop at Wangdue to visit Wangdue Dzong and short walk to Rinchen Gang clustered village, houses are made from mud and stones. The people of the village are said to be Indian origin.
We will stop at Dochu La for lunch; from there you can enjoy the view of Himalayan ranges and snow peaks. If you have missed any site visit earlier, en route stop over at Thimphu on the way to Paro and visit the left over sightseeing. Evening freely stroll in town and visit shops

DAY 10: HIKE TO TAKTSHANG (4-5hrs)
After breakfast you will bike through the beautiful Paro Valley and stunning hike on foot or on accommodating mule to the Taktsang Goemba or Tiger’s Nest viewpoint and visit Tiger’s Nest. The hike, which is all the way uphill, takes about 2 hours through pine forests. The hike can be divided to ‘two half’, approximately about 1hrs to tea house from the base and another hour from the tea house till the monastery.
The Goemba which clings to a huge granite cliff 900m/2880ft, it is believed that the great saint Padmasambhava came in the 7th century on a flying tigress and meditated in a cave for 3 months. It is a pilgrimage site for every Bhutanese to visit once in their lifetime.
In the afternoon you will visit the local farm houses and experience the traditional ‘hot-stone bath’, it’s an art of natural healing process practiced centuries ago.

DAY 11: Depart
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport 2hrs prior to the flight departure for to your next destination.
