Tour Route: Paro, Haa, Thimphu and Punakha
(please note that this is just a sketch itinerary)
Day 1: Paro – Thimphu (1hr) Flight to Paro(2280m) – Haa. Drive Haa valley which has recently been open to tourist only after 2002. Lying on the western frontier at an altitude range between 2000m – 5000m is the Haa valley which is home to over 250 species of flowering plant including the National Flower (blue poppy), 45 different bird species identified during the flora and fauna survey.
Day 2: Haa – Thimphu (3hrs) The Capital city is the center of government, religion and commerce. Thimphu is the only other national capital in the World with no traffic lights.
Overnight at Hotel Jumolhari
Day 3: Drive to Punakha(1250m), en-route a stopover at the Dochula Pass(3140). The ancient trading route still is the most beautiful scenic point where a 108 elegant stupas splitting the lone highway into two. Step out, it’s time to stretch your legs while we stand facing the gorgeous Eastern Himalayas. After lunch visit the “Palace of Great Happiness” surrounded by Pho Chhu(male) and Mo Chhu(female). Chhu, local name for rivers.
Overnight at Damchen Resort
Day 4: Punakha – Paro (4hrs) after breakfast pay your visit to the “Khuruthang Goemba”. Lunch at Dohu La cafeteria and drive back to Paro.
Overnight at Tashi Namgay, Tenziling or similar.
Day 5: Paro
Visit the 17th century old Ta-Dzong which has now been converted as the National Museum, later visit Paro Rinpung dzong, believed to be built on a hill that looks like “Heap of Jewels”. Afternoon, visit Kyichu Lhakang, one of the oldest temples in the country. Stroll around one of the smallest town in the world.
Overnight at Tashi Namgay, Tenziling or similar
Day 6: Paro
Departure. Transfer back to the Air-port. Make sure to arrive two hours prior to flight schedule.
