Dragon kingdom Trek(Paro-Thimphu)

Day 1. Arrive at Paro and transfer to to hotel.
Overnight at Tashi Namgay (or) Tenziling resort.

Day 2. Beging your trek.
National Museum – Jili Dzong (10km, 4-5hrs, 1090m ascent)

The first day is a long climb as you gain more than 1000m of elevation. The trek follows through
an unpaved road past few farms about 30min and then climbs steeply uphill passing Kuenga
Lhakang at 2640m. A big stone house at Damchena (2880 m) where the road ends, the wide trail climbs through blue-pine forests to a mani wall in a clearing known as Damche Gom (3020m). After another hour we reach tonight’s camping place in a large pasture just below Jili Dzong (3560m).

Day 3. Jili Dzong- Jangchhulakha (10 km, 3-4 hrs, 310 m ascent, 50m descent)

Jili Dzong was the residence of Ngawang Chhogyel (1465-1540), the cousin of the Divine Madman. The large lhakhang is one of its only kind that showcases one of the oldest 4m tall statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. The dzong is located in such a way that offers a great view of Paro town along with Jumolhari and other snowcapped mountains in a distance.
From the dzong the route begins a long ridge walk in rhododendron forest to a saddle at 3550m, then descending through a forest of trees ravaged by bark beetles. Cross to the east side of the ridge and make a long traverse through cedars to Jangchhu lakha(3760m) and further 10min walk leads us to the nearest campsite at Tsokam.(377m)

Day 4. Tsokam – Simkota (11km, 4-5hrs, 230m descent, 330m descent)

The trails descends from tsokam through forests to the foot of a valley and crosses the upper part of the Bemang Rong Chhu (3540m). Trek upstream past a yak pasture called Langrithang. Climb another ridge, then make several ups and downs to a crest at 4050m overlooking Janye tsho. Descend to a yak herder’s camp near the lake and walk along the shore at 3950, before climbing to a ridge at 4150m and descending to some stone ruins and a camp spot at 4110m, overlooking Simkota Tsho.

Day 5. Simkota – Phajoding ( 10km, 3-4hrs, 130m ascent, 680m descent)

A long climb past several false summits, then a long rocky traverse to a group of cairns atop Labana La(4210m).
There are views of Dochula and Mt.Jumolhari along this stretch of the trail. Descending down past a dry lake and a rough stone wall soon come to some prayer flags on a hill above the trail that mark a seldom-used sky burial site. Weather permitting there are views of Gangkar Puensum and the Himalayan peaks before leading northeast and descends steeply towards Phajoding (3750m).

Day 6. Phajoding – Motithang (4-5km, 2 – 3hrs, 1130m descent)

After paying a visit to the nearby temples, we descend down on a wide trail, passing a Bhutanese chorten at 3440m. Just below the chorten there is a junction wher by if you may turn left taking a totally different route down to Chokhortse Goemba and the BTC telecom tower (or) descend down to Motithang youth center by turning right and descending down towards Motithang(2520).

Overnight at Khang Residency

Day 7. Thimphu valley tour.
School of arts and craft, Lhendup Gayul weaving centre, Gaint statue of the Budhha Doderma, Taking preservation centre, massive fortress of glorious religion. Optional day hike to Wangdtse goenba, hand made paper factory.

Overnight at Khang residency, peaceful resort (or) similar.

Day 8. Drive to Paro. Day hike to Paro ‘Taktsang’. Evening visit typical Bhutanese farm house and experience the traditional hot stone bath at the farm house.

Overnight at Tenziling resort (or) Khangkhu resort or similar
